How much of my money goes into climate projects?

In short: as much as possible. Our payment gateway partner retains 2 per cent of every online transaction processed through the ACAF website. Some costs like these can’t be avoided. However,  as a not-for-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers, we can ensure that any operating expenses are kept to a minimum.

ACAF is committed to the principles of openness and transparency. All of our operation expenses are audited yearly and the results are published on our website for all to see.

Are you a registered charity?

Yes, we are registered as a Charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission. View the ACNC registration.

Are my donation or membership fees tax deductible?

It depends project to project. When we act as an agent for organisation which have DGR in which case the gift will be tax deductible. This will be clearly indicated project to project.

What is Australia Climate Action Fund (ACAF)?

The Australia Climate Action Fund (ACAF) is a non-profit fund dedicated to tackling climate change. We finance new and innovative projects across the country to reduce Australia’s carbon footprint and secure a better future for the next generation. The best part? You decide where the money goes. From installing solar panelling for schools to building off-grid bushfire refuges for remote communities, ACAF members control what is being funded by voting for the projects they want our board to implement.

How do we work?

ACAF is committed to the principles of openness and transparency. To avoid prohibitive costs, and to ensure any donations are directed to projects, our platform is run entirely by volunteers with support from the executive board. All operation expenses are audited yearly and the results are published on the ACAF platform.

Investment decisions about ACAF projects are decided by member votes and executed by the board, sometimes in coordination with a third party. Each project is costed based on initial feasibility reports and research.

How do we find & evaluate Projects

ACAF seeks out organisations which have the expertise and capability to provide emission reductions solutions, but may lack adequate funding to get these projects established.
Providing the project funding required divided by the CO2 tonnes remitted is below the cost of Carbon Credits in Australia, we will consider inclusion on our website for funding.

ACAF will evaluate each project on various criteria including:
● the ability of the proponent to deliver the project,
● whether they have maximised other sources of funding,
● whether the project has inadvertent negative effect (eg a dam in an ecologically sensitive area)
● most importantly the amount of demonstrable CO2 emissions reductions they will manage to achieve.
